Changi Airport Group calling tender for 3rd ground handling licence
17 Nov 2009

Changi Airport Group (CAG) says it's calling a tender for a third ground handling licence at Singapore's Changi Airport.

The tender covers the provision of passenger handling, apron handling and cargo handling services.

These services are currently provided by two agents - Singapore Airport Terminal Services and SIA Engineering Company, as well as Changi International Airport Services.

CAG says a third ground handler will provide the 85 airlines currently operating at Changi Airport with more choice and a more competitive ground handling market.

CEO Lee Seow Hiang says the company has received expressions of interest form a number of parties regarding a third ground handling license over the last few months.

This has been prompted by two main factors, the divestment of Singapore Airport Terminal Services by Singapore Airlines and improving busienss conditions in the aviation market.

He says there was especially keen interest from those who have experience servicing low-cost carriers.

The formal expressions of interest phase of the tender will close on the 16th of December.

In phase 2, shortlisted bidders will be required to submit detailed bids including their business and financial plan.

CAG says the licence will be for a period of five years and the successful bidder is expected to start operations by mid next year.
