Ex-CEO of Merrill Lynch John Thain has reportedly held talks to become the head of commercial lender CIT Group.
CIT emerged from bankruptcy last month and is on the lookout for a new chief as its CEO Jeffrey Peek is scheduled to leave later this month.
Sources say Mr Thain is considering alternatives and hasn’t made any decisions.
Joining CIT would return the 54-year-old to the top of a public firm a year after he was pushed out of Bank of America, which had bought over Merrill Lynch.
In addition to CIT, Mr Thain is said to be considering jobs at private equity firms.
He has apparently held talks to join Stone Point Capital, whose chairman is former Goldman Sachs Co-Chairman Stephen Friedman.
Previously, Mr Thain had worked at Goldman Sachs for about 24 years. |
