Singapore’s investor sentiment is at an all-time high since the onset of the 2008 financial crisis.
That’s according to Dutch financial services group, ING, which says its Singapore Investor Dashboard Sentiment Index for the fourth quarter in 2009 came in at 150.
It’s a 168 percent jump compared to the reading of 56 recorded over the same period a year ago.
Compared to the previous 3 months’ level of 149, the index in the fourth quarter is just slightly better.
Investor sentiment here is amongst the highest in Asia, just behind the high-growth markets of India (169), China (158) and Taiwan (153).
Local investors are also positive about the country’s economy, with 79 percent optimistic that growth will continue this quarter.
They are also bullish about the outlook on stock and property markets, as 87 percent expect equities’ prices to remain at current levels or to rise.
ING says the strong recovery in investor confidence follows the positive performance in the financial markets.
Improvement of regional economies also helped to boost investor confidence.
ING adds that the results show investors here are confident that the worst is behind them and they are poised for more market activity this year.
The ING Investor Dashboard is a quarterly survey conducted quarterly across 12 markets in Asia Pacific. |
