The US Department of Justice is reportedly probing allegations that investors have used the Greek debt crisis to collude in attacks on the euro.
Letters have apparently been sent to hedge funds concerning the investigation, calling on the hedge funds to retain records and emails of euro-related trades
The Wall Street Journal reported that SAC Capital Advisors, Greenlight Capital, Soros Fund Management as well as Paulson & Co are subjects of the investigation.
The euro has come under sustained attack over Greece's faltering economy, with the single currency swinging dramatically against the US dollar.
The European Commission and the US Federal Reserve had previously announced checks into the Greek affair.
Last month, Fed chief Ben Bernanke said that the central bank was looking into deals conducted by investment giant Goldman Sachs and others.
