The Romanian diplomat involved in a fatal hit-and-run accident in Singapore is facing manslaughter charges.
This is according to the Romanian prosecutor's office.
Two pedestrians were hit by a Romanian embassy car in mid-December.
The driver drove on and hit another person minutes later.
One of the victims suffered brain damage and died on Christmas Day while the other two suffered injuries.
Romania's prosecutor's office say after the second accident, Dr Silviu Ionescu, charge d'affaires in Singapore, called the police to report his car was missing.
And it said this allegation has been proven false.
According to the AFP news agency, the date for the diplomat's indictment is not yet known.
Dr Ionescu left Singapore days after the incident, citing medical reasons.
The Romanian Foreign Ministry had called for an investigation by Romanian prosecutors and pledged to cooperate with the Singaporean authorities in order to clarify this affair.
The ministry has also transfered to investigators the information gathered during its own internal inquiry. |
