Iran has officially notified the UN nuclear watchdog of its plans to produce 20 percent enriched uranium.
Announcing this, Tehran's envoy to the International Atomic Energy Agency, Ali Asghar Soltanieh, said the aim is to provide fuel for the Tehran reactor.
Ali Akbar Salehi, who heads Iran's Atomic Energy Organisation, said earlier that his country would start producing uranium enriched to a level of 20 percent on Tuesday.
But he added production would be halted if Iran received fuel enriched to 20 percent from abroad.
Mr Salehi added Iran plans to build 10 new uranium enrichment facilities.
